Community Spaces

There are a number of community spaces and businesses in Isla Vista that serve the community by hosting events, donating supplies, or making themselves available for public discussions and forums. The following community spaces include religious institutions, concert venues, and more. While this list includes many community spaces, it does not include those organizations that serve the community as businesses, although they also provide very important services to Isla Vista.

Associated Students Pardall Center

The Associated Students Pardall Center, in the heart of Isla Vista, serves the UCSB and Isla Vista community and is funded by UCSB student fees.

On the first floor, they host individual study spaces, group work areas, computer and basic printing facilities along with meeting spaces/times available for those needing a space to congregate. Also on the first floor is the Self Help Legal Center.

On the second floor, the AS Legal Resource Center and AS Isla Vista Tenants Union provide services to UCSB students and the community.

Biko Infoshop

The Biko Garage is an open, respectfully run, and cooperatively managed community space. The Biko Garage furthers its vision by providing a positive space for meetings, events and expressions through music, art, media and community activism.

Embarcadero Hall

Embarcadero Hall is situated at the former location of the Bank of America, which was  burned down in the 1970s. Embarcadero Hall currently is a host of many community events, UCSB staff offices, and is used as a lecture hall for UCSB classes.

Isla Vista Church

The Isla Vista Church provides opportunities to engage with religion in Isla Vista. Services are generally on Sundays at Embarcadero Hall at 4pm.

Isla Vista Theater

Isla Vista Theater is comprised of two theaters connected by a common lobby. The largest, Theater #1, seats 525 persons, and the smaller, Theater #2, seats 146. A lit outdoor  courtyard serves as a reception area or a nice place to drink a cup of coffee before classes or events. Unlike most on-campus classroom facilities, a team of student technicians staffs these two rooms full-time.

Light and Life Goleta

Light and Life Goleta church is a small, multicultural church serving the communities of Isla Vista and Goleta.

Santa Barbara Hillel

The Santa Barbara Hillel is a community center for all Jewish students and non-Jewish students. It is a safe space for Jewish students, and is often used for community meetings and voting.
